Two ways to train

Small, friendly group classes and personal training with a difference.

Outdoor Fitness

Push yourself to the limits in beautiful surroundings and in great company.

No time to get bored. Classes move from place to place. I use the local landscape for fun and challenging workouts.

I don't use equipment. You'll use your bodyweight to improve your strength, balance and flexibility. Consequently, no equipment, no excuses. The exercises you learn in my classes, you can take away and do anytime and anywhere.

“I prefer bodyweight exercises as opposed to weights… Be that as it may if you're recovering from an injury or training for a specific event, using weights can benefit your training plan. So you'll be pleased to know I've got a large selection of weights, bands and kettlebells to help you to achieve those goals.”

About Maria Judd

Do you want to improve your level of fitness, but at the same time want to avoid crowded, stuffy gyms, and lonely monotonous workouts?

Or are you frustrated because you're not getting the results you want from your current fitness regime? Here's where I can help.

My name is Maria Judd, and I'm an advocate of outdoor fitness. Because workouts are more varied and you get more tangible results and health benefits exercising outdoors as opposed to working out in a gym.

I run small, friendly group outdoor fitness classes and personal training with a difference.

Her rule

“I do not exercise with my groups. It's not my workout. It's my job to ensure you carry out exercises correctly for maximum benefit and reduce the risk of injury.”

Her story

I started Lewes Outdoor Fitness in 2010.

After finishing university, I trained and worked as a teacher in Further Education.

Just over sixteen years ago, I decided to throw all my balls up in the air and combine the elements of my life that I enjoyed most into my work - people, teaching, exercise and the great outdoors.

So I retrained as a personal trainer with the YMCA, and I have worked in the fitness sector ever since. A move I've never regretted!

I have a holistic approach to fitness. Fitness of mind is just as necessary as the fitness of the body.

Therefore I make every class varied and fun so that my clients leave sessions with clear heads, energised and feeling good!

In fact, one of the great joys of my job is meeting and getting to know a great bunch of people. They guarantee laughs, fun as well as work and sweat… in every class.

What people say

Nine people, in their own words.

01

Michelle, Lewes

“If you want to get fit in Lewes - this is the way to do it! Maria's classes are very effective and enjoyable.”

02

Kate W, Lewes

“Really good teachers like Maria are a rarity. She strikes a perfect balance between gentle encouragement and bootcamp toughness - with good technical knowledge and attention to detail thrown in. Exercising outdoors in all weathers is fantastic – it keeps the blues at bay in the depths of winter. I can't thank her enough!”

03

Rachel D

“I have been attending Lewes Outdoor Fitness classes for a while now and can't believe the difference it makes to my mind as well as my body! The feeling I get after finishing my favourite workout on the top of the downs can't be matched! Maria is a fantastic instructor who treats us as individuals - so it feels like personal training even in a larger class. She knows how to work us but I still have a lot of fun. I never regret taking part!”

04

Martha W

“After my son was born I never thought I would be fit again or have any degree of body confidence. Having worked with Maria, I have exceeded all of my goals – including running the Hastings half marathon in a respectable time and preparing for my first marathon. I am fitter and more confident than I was before my son was born. Recently I was in a gym on holiday when one of the trainers asked how I got such toned arms. My answer was simply: 'Maria.'”

05

Kerry P

“While a typical exercise class is bound to produce grunts and groans, it is also guaranteed to produce laughter. Maria does work you hard, but in such a positive and affirming manner that you enjoy (and even look forward to) pushing yourself harder. Classes are varied, never boring, and flexible to suit all levels of fitness (or your individual energy on the day). Truly, I can't imagine a better way to get fit: motivated by a skilled, experienced, and incredible woman, surrounded by the outdoor beauty of the South Downs, and in the company of great people. I can't recommend Maria and Lewes Outdoor Fitness highly enough.”

06

Charlotte L, Lewes

“I spend plenty of my time raving about the virtues of outdoor fitness to all who'll listen (sad but true), but actually translating how good it is into written words is a real challenge. Outdoor fitness with Maria has transformed my attitude to fitness! Maria has created something really special and unique. The group was so welcoming from day 1 and although the abilities of the group are always varied, Maria provides an environment that encourages all that take part to realise their targets and potential. I used to dread exercise but now positively look forward to her classes AND have just signed up for a marathon. I wouldn't have had the courage to do this without Maria's unwavering support and encouragement.”

07

Kathy, Lewes

“I've regularly attended Maria's exercise classes for two years and I'm now two and a half stone lighter. And never yet been bored. She provides an encouraging, never intimidating, atmosphere. Everyone works hard and whatever your ability there are always alternatives offered – you can chart your progress as you get fitter and stronger. I cannot emphasise enough the benefits of exercising outdoors, especially in beautiful Lewes. I would never go back to the gym.”

08

Rachel C

“Maria's class has changed my life. She's the best sort of teacher – her enthusiasm is infectious and the class is about us, not her. It's fun, convivial and makes me fit. Being outside whatever the weather is empowering – if you can exercise in the rain for an hour, and enjoy it, you can do anything. I've met lots of great people whose paths I would never otherwise have crossed. Body and spirit nourished – what more to ask?”

09

Susie B, Lewes

“Over the past 20 years I've tried numerous fitness classes, but nothing comes close to the fun, satisfaction & reward I get from doing Maria's class. I started by going after my second child was born and I can honestly say that I am fitter and healthier now than I have probably ever been. Being outdoors makes it such a brilliant experience and your soul soars while your waist shrinks!”

Before your first class

What to wear, what to bring.

  • Layers

I recommend dressing in layers that you can remove when you get hot and then put back on as necessary. Start with a layer of synthetic material such as lycra which draws sweat away from your body. I recommend you avoid cotton as it stays wet next to your skin. After that, add a layer of fleece for insulation. Finally add a waterproof, breathable outer layer.

  • Hat, gloves and a plastic bag

I recommend you protect your head and ears with a hat and hands with gloves or mittens. Oh - and pop a plastic bag into your pocket so that you can keep your bum dry when I ask you to perform seated exercises.

  • Cold days

No! Know that outdoor exercise generates a considerable amount of heat. So you'll be surprised at how quickly you warm up. In fact, on a cold day, you'll probably want to take off your coat.

  • Sun and water

Don't forget to wear sunscreen! You can also protect your eyes from glare with sunglasses.

I recommend you bring a portable bottle of water to keep you hydrated.

  • All levels

I cater to all fitness levels, from the beginner to the seasoned athlete. I won't push you out of your comfort zone until I know you're ready and capable. Or never, if you don't want to.

  • Your health

If you haven't exercised for some time, have a specific health condition or are recovering from an injury, then check with your doctor before attending class.

About this preview

A taste of a direction, not a finished site.

This page was built in an afternoon from what is publicly on Maria's existing site. It is a one-page prototype — a taste of a direction, not a finished site. The real build would be considerably more detailed.

Her actual pages are About Maria Judd, Outdoor Fitness, Personal Training and Classes.

A full build would add:

  • every page in full
  • her own photography at full size
  • her terms and conditions
  • live booking on her own diary
  • a working enquiry form
  • SEO and analytics
  • the complete price list

Placeholders, honestly named: the class-booking times above are illustrative and nothing on this page submits or stores anything. The block-booking discount is shown as “to be confirmed” — on request from Maria — because her current site gives two different figures for it.
